TRACK 6: "APOCALYPTIC CONVULSIONS" 10" COMPILATION

"Welcome to the ANAL CUNT
"Greatest Hits, Volume One" CD.
This is a collection of all the official A.C. releases,
along with live and unreleased stuff
from the original A.C. line up, which was
Seth Putnam-vocals, Mike Mahan-guitar, and Tim Morse-drums.
This line up lasted from March 1988 to April 21, 1990.
A.C.broke up on April 21, 1990,
and reformed on March 1, 1991
with a different guitar player, but I'll write about that
if there is ever an A.C. greatest hits vol. 2.
Here's a basic summary of what's on this CD,
as well as stories, facts, sillythings,etc.
The first thing on the CD is our 47 Song demo,
which was recorded on August 22,1988.
This was the 2nd A.C. demo we recorded,
but the first one was never released
and only 2 people besides us has ever heard it.
Anyways, this is the only demo
we ever made available to anyone.
It was recorded in my house
on my parents stereo system.
We recorded it 4 days before our first U.S.tour
so we'd have something to sell
and get the band name around.
We only made 30 copies of it.
One interesting thing about the first tour
was that nobody had any idea what we sounded like.
I managed to book the first tour without giving
any of the club owners or promoters a tape of us.
I basically talked them all into it over the phone.
It was on this tour that we got
the famous intro to our 88 song E.P. from.
We played 2 shows at the Electric Banana in Pittsburgh,
and between the 2 shows combined,
there was about 5 people in the crowd
(not including the other bands).
That tour took us as far as Florida.
The next item on the CD is our 88 song E.P.,
which is our first record.
It was recorded on November 22, 1988
at BF/VF recording studios.
It was produced by me and Marc Lindahl.
On the 7" version, the last song on the E.P.
(also known by some people as "Guy Lombardo")
was cut because it would've been too long for a 7",
but on this CD, you get the whole uncut version (WOW).
We put this E.P. out on our own label,
Wicked Sick Records, and 1012 copies were pressed
(a few were damaged, so there is a little less than 1000 copies) floating around somewhere.
The 88 song E.P. is out of print
(as well as all our other records).
One of the distributors who totally ripped us off
was Kaleidoscope Distribution from somewhere in Illinois.
They owed us money for 150 copies of the 88 song E.P.,
then went out of business,
so I'd like to take this opportunity
to say fuck you to everyone associted with them!!!
The next item on the CD is A.C. live at Dino's
(guitarist for the now defunct band Transgression) garage
in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 20, 1989.
We drove all the way there (1000 miles)
to play a free show for about 60 people
and we stayed in Indianapolis for almost a week.
It was a great time.
During that week, we also played a show
at the Electric Banana in Pittsburgh,
then back to Indiana to hang around,
and we also played another free show
in someone's basement.
After that, there is our second vinyl release,
our split 7" with Seven Minutes Of Nausea.
It was recorded on May 29, 1989.
Me and Tim think it is our worst record,
while Mike thinks it is our best one.
It was recorded at BF/VF studios,
and again co-produced by the fabulous Marc Lindahl.
I think this stuff is much too over produced,
and I personally don't like it very much.
There was 1000 of these pressed.
Next is some unreleased stuff that was recorded
for an Ax/ction records 10" compilation
(That still hasn't come out yet!!!).
It was recorded the same day as the split 7" with 7 M.O.N.
Some of the vocals were re-recorded on June 10,1991.
After that is our 5,643 song E.P.,
which has 16 different songs playing at the same time
and is just a total wall of noise.
The idea for this E.P.was conceived by me and Marc Lindahl
one night while hanging out at his apartment.
Before we got to record it, Maric moved to New York,
so it was produced by me and Tom Waltz at BF/VF studios.
This record took forever to record (20 hours).
It has over 3 hours worth of music on it
all compressed into 12 minutes.
Besides the tedious recording, we also had to put up
with this total bitch who lived upstairs
who was always complaining that we were too loud
(there is an apartment building above the studio).
We recorded side 2 first, on September 23 & 24, 1989,
and we recorded side 1 on October 1, 1989.
Before we started recording on October 1,
I got the idea for the piano intro while I was taking a shit.
We thought that that would be a better intro for the record,
so we made it side one.
I originally put it out on my own label
(307 pressed, 50 of them with a full color cover).
Then Matthias Weigand re-released it on his TNT&R label
(1100 pressed on 6 different colored vinyls).
The reason I only pressed 307 copies on my label
was because I didn't think anyone would like it,
and I didn't want to get stuck
with lots of records that I couldn't sell.
Also, I only wanted people
who had already heard A.C. to get it,
because I didn't want someone
who had never heard us before to hear it
and think all our stuff sounded like that.
We also rushed it out so nobody would steal our idea
of having multiple tracks playing at the same time.
Next up is part of the 5,643 song E.P.
for anyone who was wondering
what the songs sounded like individually.
It has the same beginning, but goes only into one song.
We just played a few songs from each track
so you could get an idea of what they sound like.
Also when we listened to part of it
we noticed we were fooling around a lot
because we were so bored when we recorded it.
There is also a few seconds on this
where we put all 16 tracks on.
Me and Tim basically just put on bits and pieces
from each track on it.
Next is our last E.P. we recorded with Mike,
called "Another E.P.".
It is Me and Tim's favorite of all of them.
It was recorded in my attic
on my little brother's tape recorder.
It was recorded on January 20th, 1990.
The day we recorded this E.P., we decided to break up,
and this was going to be our final record,
but we ended up reforming 6 hours later
because we wanted to play in Europe before we broke up.
We were going to do a limited pressing of this record
to sell in Europe, but we couldn't afford it.
It didn't come out until around April, 1991.
It came out on TNT&R and only 500 copies were pressed.
After that is some live stuff from our first show in Germany.
It was on April 3rd, 1990.
A bootleg record was made out of this show
by the guitarist for Patareni.
That show was also the longest A.C. show ever
(40 minutes long!!!!
Our live shows were usually 8 to 15 minutes long.).
The show promoter told us
that we had to play for at least 30 minutes.
And after that is some stuff from our last show in Germany,
and also the last show with the old line-up.
It was on April 20th, 1990 in West Berlin.
It was probably one of the worst shows we ever played.
It was a "Noisecore Festival" with about 8 bands.
We had a show the next day in East Berlin,
but the show got cancelled before we went on
because of rain (it was an outdoor show).
We played 5 shows in Germany
and one show in Holland on this tour,
and it was a great time & we met lots of great people
(too many to mention).
